Boston

Its actually quite difficult taking decent photos from a moving coach but this is one of the views I managed as we approached Boston. It is a very interesting city and we spent our first morning in the capable hands of John, our guide, who as you can see dressed for the part. He was very knowlegable which made the tour really enjoyable. Boston is of course the home of the Boston Red Sox and you can learn more about them if you are a baseball fan.

I can now boast that I have been to Harvard and this is one of the oldest building and, according to John, is now used by the president ( hope I've got that right). You may not see clearly in this photo but the left foot on the statue of John Harvard (Harvard College was actually established in 1636 by vote of the Great and General Court of Massachusetts Bay Colony, and was named for its first benefactor, John Harvard of Charlestown, a young minister who upon his death in 1638, left his library and half his estate to the new institution. This was a substantial legacy at the time) appears polished. Apparently one of the traditions for students before taking exams is to touch the foot to impart knowledge. Although my exam days are long gone I decided to try it anyway- you never know it might help me with the crossword.

The street lighting in Boston is fascinating and reminds me of my childhood hope you can see what it is ? from the photo and it stays on all the time.

This is the home of Paul Revere tucked away in a beautiful little cobbled square that coaches cannot access (pity they allow cars to park infront). Learn more about him and his famous midnight ride.

After the tour we were dropped at Quincy Market for lunch and you will see there was plenty of choice to suit all tastes and we sat outside in the sun to eat a tasty caesar chicken salad with avacado in a wrap. The afternoon was then our own time so more about that tomorrow if you are not already bored!!!
