My computer

I'm borrowing this from alisonwonderland as I couldn't resist the challenge when I saw her post a couple of Saturdays ago.

Me and My Computer

1. PC or Mac? (You must choose one or the other.)

MAC

2. How much do you like one over the other, and what's the main reason?

I have only ever had a mac and although I used a PC for work I am sticking to my mac and am about to buy a new one. However we do have a macword programme installed as embee found he couldn't read some attachments sent from PC's (with the help of my son-i-l, thanks Joules, I've actually ordered my new imac and am now eagerly awaiting delivery from Cork in Ireland believe it or not). I haven't really answered the question- now why do I like it- lets just say better the devil you know!!

3. What would be easier to do without for a week: your cell phone, your television, or your computer?

That's easy, definitely my cell phone I hardly ever use it. It comes from the arc and is the one and only cell phone I have owned.

It's so big and heavy that it can be a nuisance to carry and I can't use it abroad, except in Ireland, which is useful. It has a crack in the glass and sometimes the face has to be pushed hard before I can see it but I am still too miserly to upgrade. Much as I envy my daughters having camera phones, very useful for blogging!

4. Take the quiz: Are You a Computer Geek?
How do you compare?
My computer geek score is greater than 29% of all people in the world! How do you compare? here to find out!

Help- this is a very low score I am almost too ashamed to let you see it. My computer geek score was originally 25% but I had to re-do the test as when I first publish the link had disappeared -show just how much/ little I know even though I've increased my score he he)

5. What things do you feel more addicted to than your computer?

Is there anything I could be more addicted to !! I don't think sooo.

6. If your computer has to go in for service and you're without it for a week, and you have the chance to log on at a different computer, which are you most likely to do first: check news headlines, check email, or update your blog?

Check email first closely followed by updating blog. I'd be missing my friends. I really enjoy my daily delve. I'm a lurker and only comment regularly on a few, well maybe more than a few!

Have a go and if anyone gets a score lower than mine we can commiserate together.

P.S. I hope to have some exciting computer news in a few days, have just received an email to let me know my order was dispatched yesterday and should arrive on or before 23/4. However, with such a low 'savviness' score will I be able to set it up I ask myself. Well I did manage it the first time around when I knew even less than I do now and I can always ring Joules if I get stuck!!

I could have gooten more because I knew what the answers should be - but I am just a mild geek.

I'm a wannabe aparently...

44% scored higher (more computer geeky),
1% scored the same, and
55% scored lower (less geeky).

Compared to those in the same age group as you:
61% scored higher (more computer geeky),
1% scored the same, and
38% scored lower (less geeky).

What does this mean? Your computer geekiness is:

You are a wannabe computer geek. You do have potential, go for it! (...Or maybe not...)

How did we survive for so many years without internet access anyway?

There is a sitcom here called Corner Gas. I don't usually watch it, but I did see an episode where two guys kept competing to own the smallest cell phone. Oh, you did say call and not mobile. The meme must be North American in origin.

I'm certainly not a geek. It asked me if I even knew what a computer was. I don't own a cell phone now I've retired but do sometimes borrow my husbands when I go out.

I think you got bonus points for being geeky enough to do it again after it disappeared. Googling is not cheating, it is being geeky.

I love Corner Gas! That one about the smallest mobile phone was funny.

I know just enough to be really dangerous around computers.

And to top it off, I sent my brand new camera cell phone through the wash machine heavy soak cycle last week.

sigh.

sam I love it that you are geeky so you can help me.

karmyn I often wonder that as it's such a part of everyday life. I remember fighting to not use one at work and that was only in 2000. A year later I was working from home and having to use one everyday. I can tell you that was a real culture shock and I now cringe when I think of the questions I used ring up and ask the technical support team.

anvilcloud definitely American I nearly used 'mobile' in my answers it seems quite alien to say cell phone.

elena jane (did you mean seymour cray I googled to find out and the links were Ok-I was a bit worried but decided to go for it)

barbara I'm quite happy not being a geek but I sometimes wish I knew a bit more so I could fix things that go wrong.

willowtree ahh didn't thing of that

pamela oh poor you you must be gutted does insurance cover that? Coincidentally Embee asked me this morning if I checked his trousers pockets before I put them in the wash. (I usually do but it's often only as I take them out to hang on the line- I sometimes find money that needs drying out or coins rattling around in the machine). He couldn't find his mobile( cell) phone- it wasn't there and we later found out he had left it a work as someone answered it and took a message and then phoned us. I thought this very noble as it is a Saturday and normally noone would be working.

What a fun quiz - Sadly (?) I recognized Seymour Cray without googling him. He was a very big deal many years ago! The links were hilarious!!

Thanks for showing your mobile.

We have something in common - in our mobile phones.

I still prefer my Nokia 5.1 - although don't use much - but still there in an emergency.

Thanks for kind comments.
