Fun Monday # 55 What's in a name!!

Mariposa is asking TWO things of us this week:
  • To share how we named our blog!
  • To share our favorite/ most common dish!
*****************************
The first task is not difficult. I started my blog to write about what has been happening in my life so that my girls (Sam and Beccy) could read about home and keep in touch. Therefore when I was thinking of blog names my initial thought was.... it's going to be about nothing in particular just 'bits and pieces'. Sam immediately dismissed that one....and I always listen to my children!!!! I mulled it over with embee who suggested 'miscellaneous' but it was my daughter Sam who then suggested it should be presented as 'Ms Cellania'..... so very clever (why couldn't I think of that!). Then when my grandson Dillon (13 at the time) left me a really funny comment I knew it was perfect!!
************************************
The second task is much more difficult because I have so many dishes that I really like or cook very regularly, therefore it's difficult to choose just one dish..... SO I'm leaving you with a picture of a British favourite~ this was home made if bought the fish would be in batter... oh and for the record I do not like 'mushy peas' but embee does!

The other traditional British dish that I love is 'Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding' so I'm just leaving links to past posts in case you want to take a peep!
Roast Beef
Home made Fish and Chips

I'm off to do some visiting so see you soon!

My Darling wife, in her first blog credits me with the Title Miscellaneous, if fact I suggested Miscellania which you will all know is the plural. It was indeed the clever one who sugested Ms Cellania and so it has bee for many a happy blog which I read avidly every day even to ringing her up to find out if she is alright if she has not posted! Love EmBee

That's very kind of you mum but as you know I really miss the authentic British chip shop fish and chips. I was looking forward to eating them at Christmas but somehow they never materialised!

There was a great fish and chip place back in Sarnia, but we have yet to find a decent one here in this much larger place (larger outside of our little town if that makes sense). But hold the mushy peas.

I love fish and chips, but you can keep the mushed peas.

Your blog name is great!

And it reminds me of a story. When we were very young, my dad was bringing all of the Christmas decorations down from the attic one year. My younger brother was very young and had not yet learned how to read so he asked what was written on every box that he brought down. One of them was marked "miscellaneous" and when my dad read it to him, my brother exclaimed "Oh yeah, I remember her!". He thought the angel on the top of the tree was named Miss Cellaneous.

I don't really like fish... but that looks really yummy...except the mashed peas.

It wasn't until just recently when you linked to your first post ever that I realized what your blog name really was. I must be daft! It's a brilliant name!

BTW, I meant to thank you for always linking to the FM host on your blog. It's helped me many times, when I didn't know who was hosting.

That is a VERY clever blog name.

Chris, you can cook them (f&c) for me this week or next would be fine too. I'm not picky. I will even eat the mushed peas. Thanks to Nigella - we eat them quite often.

I have always like your blog's name, Chris, and now even more since I know it was a joint collaberation.

Fish and chips? Hummmmmm, must be Lent if I am eating them!

Very Cool name.

And Salisbury Steak is basically just a doctored hamburger with gravy. But it's very yummy.

Those fish and chips look yummy...but any type of peas make me nauseous.

I've only just connected the name now I've pronounced it correctly. I thought Cellania was a foreign word for kitchen. Sometimes I'm not very bright? ;)

I, too, need the obvious pointed out to me. What a very clever name!

I just noticed the mushy peas! I eat them very similar. I don't mash them but I cook them in butter and salt, boiling them until they are nice and mushy. My favorite way to eat peas, nice to meet someone else who likes them mushy.

Duh! I don't think I have ever said the name out loud and never put the connection together. I just figured that Cellania was a British word and I was always too embarrased to ask what it meant !! Now it makes perfect sense - very clever indeed you all were.

I had my first fish and chips (real home made ) when I stayed with my friends in Eastbourne at the English South East coast. Before I had tried it in London in a restaurant or on the street and didn't like it at all, lol !

I am not sure how Mushy Peas are made but I know you can buy them in tins in the local supermakets. Some fish and chip shops have them so mushy that they are more like soup or gravy. ChrisB only likes a few if they are fairly whole. However they are probably not the usual Garden Pea and I do not think that they are usually mashed, probably more like distressed!!!

Mushy peas! I love mushy peas and would you believe that the perfect thing for mushy peas to add to the taste is vinegar!
Fish and chips with roast beef. A perfect meal! :o)

You can't get good fish and chips in Minnesota. Red Lobster has them on the menu but I think they think soggy is Midwestern for crispy.
