Isn't he a clever boy!

I think we might have been a little premature in harvesting these little beauties! Embee wondered how they were doing so we decided to empty one container to find out. A few are reasonable size but the rest are far too small. However, I'm sure they will taste good!

This is quite a heavy specimen; so now you know what we are having for dinner this evening!!!

You know you're getting old when......

You buy one of these
Ok I give you all permission to have a giggle.......bought myself this a couple of days ago in an attempt to preserve my aging hips. I certainly do not like bending to use a normal dustpan and brush......I haven't used it yet so not even sure it will be helpful but time will tell!!!!

Enjoying an evening with friends

Anyone who read my blog a few years ago may remember the trip I took (with my friend Tina)  to Canada to visit a friend who returned to live in Toronto.
These last few days Kim (on the right) has been on a very quick visit to see her family and yesterday we met up for the evening. I always marvel at the way one slips right back and it feels like we only saw each other yesterday! We had a lovely evening and as you might guess we didn't stop talking. Kim has issued us with an open invitation to visit again and see a little more of Canada so I'd better get saving!

Now why didn't they tell me my collar needed straightening before the waitress took this snap!!!!

Flaming June!!

In the past few weeks I think we have experienced weather from every season. Just when we thought summer was on it's way with a week of hot weather; and hosepipe bans being introduced to many parts of the country. There was a dramatic change and it was rain, rain and more rain!! Last night we had gale warnings for my area and sure enough the wind over night was ferocious. In my back yard, bins were blown over, garden furniture scattered and Embee's lovingly nurtured tomatoes, which were in a little plastic greenhouse, (tied to a trellis), had been blown about.
Luckily the plastic green house was in the yard (however this is now ripped beyond repair so it might have been better if it had been blown away completely!). Two of the tomato plants were snapped in half leaving him to rescue the remaining two. We only ever grow four plants which normally produces enough for our needs so lets hope for a bumper crop on the two we have left; Embee thinks it might be a bit late to get replacements!
I took a couple of photos but they don't really reflect the ferocity of the wind, hope it subsides soon.
Not sure if the tomato plants will be safe here, until we get out to buy a replacement greenhouse!
The rhubarb is taking a beating!
Oh, and in the news it said they are 'thinking' about lifting the hosepipe ban!!
This is certainly 'flaming June'!!!!

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Thinking about Jubilee celebrations sent me looking through an old photo album to find a picture of my girls at the time of the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977. If my maths are correct that would have been just a few days before Sam's 10th birthday and Beccy would have been 7 yrs old.
Now we are celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. In my opinion she has been a wonderful ambassador for this country can you imagine being in the public eye (and frequently criticised by media and politicians who would like get rid of the Royal Family) for so long. I wish her many more healthy and happy years as our head of state.
My flags are flying albeit they can only be seen at close quarters!

Five a Day!!!!!

As I was preparing myself this naughty little snack at lunchtime; I wondered if I could justify it by counting  the fruit bread and Beccy's delicious raspberry jam as one of my five a day...LOL... what do you think!!!!!!
