Preparing and Planting

The temperature has dropped dramatically today; I would estimate it's a good 10 degrees cooler than it has been for the last week or so. I hope that the veg we have planted won't be adversely affected!

So what do we have in these tubs and planters??

There is nothing in the large square ones Embee has prepared those ready for the beans. The tubs at the back have ....????

New Butts

I've had these two water butts for nearly a year and Embee finally fitted them yesterday. Now all we need is some rain!!!

Security

Embee has been a busy bee today he fitted a security grill on our cellar window.

I have wanted this doing for a long time so I'm pleased the grill is finally in place.

Now I wonder what Embee will do tomorrow! I must make the most of him feeling energetic!

Who is enjoying the sunshine.....

The recent warm weather has brought my tortoises out of hibernation. Here is Tom enjoying the sunshine, Tog was hiding when I took this picture and Topsy has gone to the vet.
Topsy woke up with her usual problems and needs antibiotics and vitamins to give her a kick start! She is now an elderly lady being around 58 years old-I think I've mentioned in previous posts we got her when my youngest daughter was 9 months old, and the vet estimates she was probably 15-20 yrs old at that time.
It's going to cost a fortune as she'll be there until after Easter. After initial treatment I usually continue with the daily bathing, eye drops and hand feeding; unfortunately I'm off to spend a few days with Beccy next week so there will be no one to act as nursemaid!

Yesterday I heard a dull thud on the window and wondered if a bird was the culprit. There sitting on the fence was one of the doves that seem to inhabit my garden. Not sure if it was dazed or just bold but it didn't move as I took photos albeit from inside the house. Normally they depart rapidly if there is any any movement. Wonder where it's partner was hiding as they are usually together!!!!!

How did I spend my weekend......

We have been enjoying a really warm spell these last few days, you could say it's summer come early! I decided to use the opportunity to do a little outside maintenance and have spend the best part of two days painting the back fences. It's a job I've been intending to do for a couple of years. So as you might guess the fences needed TLC; and I don't think one coat is enough -well the forecast is good for a few more days!! Only problem being my back and shoulder, as both are so painful from the exercise (or should I say previous lack of it)!!!

Mothering Sunday

Today on this Mothering Sunday I would like to wish everyone a peaceful and happy day. My mother loved the spring flowers and I must admit to shedding a tear as I took this picture knowing she can no longer share the pleasure with me.

Earlier I had a lovely chat with my daughter, Beccy, and when I go and visit her and the family in Dublin the week before Easter she is taking me to a show. So that is something I very much looking forward to enjoying.

My daughter, Sam, in the US sent me a lovely picture. I think it's from one of her photographs. I tried to take a photo but because of the glass frame I couldn't really do it justice. I think it's beautiful and I have to find a spot on one of my walls to show it off.

For those who do not celebrate today you have something to look forward to in a couple of months time.
